ZitatAlles anzeigenSunday, 1.30 pm: Red Devils in Frankfurt
The action-packed and successful week containing three wins, the leap to the top of the table and the booking of a place in the third round of the DFB Cup belongs to the past. On Sunday, October 4, 2009, the Red Devils are facing a new challenge. In the match against FSV Frankfurt, the men of head coach Marco Kurz want to defend their position at the top of the table.
After the tough and very successful week that the Red Devils crowned with a tantalizing 2-0 victory over Karlsruher SC, the men of Marco Kurz really had deserved two days off. On Tuesday, the team started to prepare for the next derby away to FSV Frankfurt. Also FCK forward Erik Jendrisek, who was brought to the hospital after the match and had an X-ray, took part in the training session. Fortunately, he did not break his arm and is able to strengthen his team on Sunday.
Since the whole squad has come through the tough week that handed 1. FC Kaiserslautern three games within six days, Marco Kurz will most probably line up the successful starting eleven again.
Srdjan Lakic, Manuel Hornig and Sascha Kotysch are working on their fitness again but still need to reacclimatize to the business of competitive soccer. Besides these three, every FCK player is at Marco Kurz’s disposal.
Bottom of the table FSV Frankfurt is still waiting for the first win of the season and, what makes it even worse, has not achieved one single victory from the last twelve matches. Nonetheless, FCK head coach Kurz expects the game to become a tough challenge for his team. He has thoroughly analyzed the games between FSV and St. Pauli as well as the one between FSV and Karlsruher SC just to come to the conclusion that FSV was on a par with their opponents and both defeats were unlucky.
The personnel changes did not pay off so far. After Youssef Mokhtari (Greuther Fürth), Angelo Barletta (VfL Osnabrück), Christian Mikolajczak (RW Ahlen), Emil Noll (FC Vaduz) and Markus Kreuz (WAC/St. Andrä) have left the club, FSV head coach Thomas Oral primarily signed old hands. However, Soumaila Coulibaly (Borussia Mönchengladbach), Alexander Voigt (Greuther Fürth), Pekka Lagerblom (Alemannia Aachen) and Gledson (Hansa Rostock), who look back on many games in the Bundesliga first division and are very experienced players, were not able to provide for the looked-for success up to now.
However, the guests from Kaiserslautern are alerted. FSV Frankfurt showed a less than perfect start last season too but managed to avoid relegation thanks to a strong mid-season performance. The Red Devils were among the ones to suffer from Frankfurt’s winning streak at that time. On match day 23, 1. FC Kaiserslautern lost 0-1 to Frankfurt. Even the 8,000 FCK fans who had joined their team on the journey to Frankfurt and created a home-match like atmosphere were not able to prevent defeat then.
Since more than 4,000 FCK fans are expected to travel to Frankfurt to strengthen their team on Sunday, the atmosphere at the Stadium am Bornheimer Hang is likely to be fantastic again this time. As a total of about 7,000 spectators are expected to come to the stadium on Sunday, FCK fans will be in the majority and the balance of power on the stands is well-defined. The fans from Kaiserslautern are confident that their Red Devils will get things straightened out on the field of play. Pre-conditions are promising: The players as well as the head coach are looking forward to the match and want to continue their winning streak with a “further top match”.
